Present Continuous Tense

നമുക്ക് Present Continuous Tense നെക്കുറിച്ച് പഠിക്കാം.

Tense എന്നത് ഒരു പ്രവൃത്തി (action) എപ്പോൾ നടക്കുന്നു?, എപ്പോൾ നടന്നു?, എപ്പോൾ നടക്കും? എന്നത് വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്ന grammatical concept ആണ്.

English grammarൽ പ്രധാനമായും മൂന്ന് കാലങ്ങൾ (tenses) ഉണ്ട്:

1. Present Tense (വർത്തമാന കാലം)
2. Past Tense (ഭൂത കാലം)
3. Future Tense ( ഭാവി കാലം)

ഇവയിൽ Present Tenseന് നാല് പ്രധാന വകഭേദങ്ങളുണ്ട്: Simple Present, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Present Perfect Continuous എന്നിവയാണ് അവ.

Present Continuous Tense

Present Continuous Tense (അല്ലെങ്കിൽ Present Progressive Tense) ഇപ്പോൾ നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തി സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന tense ആണ്.

• Structure (ഘടന)
• Subject + is / am / are + Verb + ing
• I am
• He/ She/ It/ Singular noun + is + Verb + ing
• You/ We/ They/ Plural noun + are + verb + ing

Examples:

• I am reading a book.
• My teacher is teaching English.
• Boys are playing football.

Verbലേക്ക് -ing ചേർക്കുന്ന വിധം

1. Normal verbs add -ing

• read- reading
• play- playing

2. e-യിൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്ന verb. e ഒഴിവാക്കി -ing

• write- writing
• make- making

3. Consonant-Vowel-Consonant pattern? അവസാന consonant double

• run- running
• swim- swimming

Uses of Present Continuous Tense (പ്രയോഗങ്ങൾ)

1– ഇപ്പോൾ നടന്നു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തി
(at the moment/ now/ right now തുടങ്ങിയ സമയ സൂചനകളോടൊപ്പം)

• He is speaking now.
• I am writing an article at the moment.

2- താത്കാലികമായി നടക്കുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തി (Temporary action)
(സ്ഥിരമല്ലാത്ത, ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ മാത്രം നടക്കുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തി)

• She is staying in Kannur these days.
• I am preparing for an exam.

3- Near futureൽ ഉറപ്പിച്ച പദ്ധതികൾ
(അടുത്ത ഭാവിയിൽ നടക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ച പ്രവർത്തികൾ)

• We are meeting the principal tomorrow.
• I am going to Kozhikode this evening.

4- മാറ്റം / പുരോഗതി (Change or development)
(ഒരു അവസ്ഥ ക്രമേണ മാറിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ് എന്ന ആശയം)

• The weather is getting hotter.
• English language is evolving rapidly.

5- Repeated action with irritation
(always, constantly തുടങ്ങിയ wordsനൊപ്പം, അസഹിഷ്ണുത പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കാൻ)

• He is always complaining.
• She is constantly interrupting me.

Negative Sentences

• Subject + is/am/are + not + verb + ing
• I am not watching TV.
• They are not listening to the teacher.

Interrogative Sentences (Questions)

• Is/ Am/ Are + Subject + verb + ing
• Are you reading now?
• Is she coming with us?

Simple Present Vs Present Continuous

Simple Present? habit, fact, routine

• He teaches English.
  (അവൻ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പഠിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്)
• Cows eat grass
  (പശുക്കൾ പുല്ല് തിന്നുന്നു)

Present Continuous? action happening now

• He is teaching English.
  (അവൻ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പഠിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു/ പഠിപ്പിക്കുകയാണ്.)
• Cows are eating grass
  ( പശുക്കൾ പുല്ല് തിന്നു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു)
